A typical day for the Chamber of Commerce staff is full of questions from the public such as, "How far is it to San Antonio, Houston, Chicago, what is the best route to take? Could you please send me all the information you have on Hidalgo? What is there to see and do in the Rio Grande Valley? What industries are represented? What is the median income? Would you please provide us with housing information? When the phone rings the questions continue Who is in charge of Where can we find... What is the best way to get to...And when the mail comes in there are 10-15 letters full of "will you... what is... can you..."

These questions are asked of the Chamber when citizens and visitors don't know who else to ask. We take our jobs very seriously because we are truly the information center of Hidalgo. We are the front door to our community. Our chamber staff assists about 1,200 visitors per year. People wanting tourist information, relocation packages, real estate information, business information, social services, list of social clubs, calendar of events, jobs, schools and colleges.

These do not include the numerous phone calls and letters we receive each year requesting information.
