Hidalgo Police Department Benefits

The City of Hidalgo has the following benefits;

• Health and life insurance provided under the present insurance coverage effective from the date of employment.

• Pension Plan: TMRS General Employees Pension Fund is a defined benefit pension plan. The City makes a contribution to the Pension Fund in accordance with the requirements identified in the actuarial valuation, and employees are required to contribute 7% of their pay into the plan. Employees become vested when they have completed 5 years of service. The Pension Plan provides benefits upon retirement, and includes provisions for disability benefits.

• Vacations Days: Full Time employees shall be eligible to use vacation leave with pay after six (6) months of service.

• 0-9 years: Eight (8) hours or one (1) day per month or ten (10) days plus two (2) personal days per year. Maximum accumulation is twenty (20) days.

• 10 years or more: Ten (10) hours or one and ¼ (1.25) days per month or fifteen (15) days plus two (2) personal days per year. Maximum accumulation is thirty (30) days.

• Sick Leave: Full Time employees shall be eligible to use sick leave with pay after six (6) months of service.

• Full Time employees shall earn sick leave at a rate of eight (8) hours or one (1) day per month and may accrue up to forty-five (45) days.

• Holidays: The City of Hidalgo observes and compensates employees for eight (8) holidays per year. (New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving (2 days), Christmas Day)

• Dodge Arena: City employees and their families are provided tickets to Killer Bee Hockey, RGV Dorados Football, Family Shows and other shows at the Dodge Arena when available. Employees are also eligible for VIP ticket purchasing privileges at Dodge Arena.

• Credit Union Membership: City employees may be shareholders in the CMECU (County Municipal Employee Credit Union)
