CIU

Hidalgo Police Department - CIU

 

This is a plain clothes unit assigned to conduct investigations under the general direction of the Detective Lieutenant.  The detective assigned to this unit, shall provide continuous services to the public in which such cases may demand utmost tact and resourcefulness. The detective performs investigative work in the solution of crimes and the identification, apprehension, and prosecution of persons suspected of committing criminal acts; such as managing crime scenes; collecting identifies and preserving any and all physical evidence to improve the resolution of a criminal case. 

 

The detective conducts initial and follow-up investigations of criminal, drug related and juvenile incidents; interviews persons in connection with all investigated incidents; develops contacts and information sources concerning drug, criminal, and juvenile activities; performs undercover operations and surveillance work as required; arrests offenders; identifies, collects, and preserves physical evidence; obtain and store stolen property prepares written reports of investigative activities; testifies in court regarding investigative activities. 

 

The detective may obtain and execute search warrants, may conduct background investigations and internal investigations (If assigned by the Chief of Police). 

 

The unit also consists of managing the sex offenders within the city.  As of 2009, there are currently 9 registered sex offenders.  You can access more information on your local sex offenders at,    https://records.txdps.state.tx.us/DPS_WEB/Portal/index.aspx.
